Oribel Cocoon High Chair Review

When Jack turned four months old, our pediatrician said we could start introducing food to Jack. I waited a few weeks, I was in no rush to start this next big milestone. I eventually picked up a few Gerber baby food purees just to see how Jack would respond. He demolished his first serving of sweet potatoes and with that, we started our journey to baby led weaning (for those unfamiliar, it’s a way to introduce your little one to solid foods that allows them to feed themselves).

We introduced purees between four and five months. He’s tried everything from sweet potatoes, carrots (a mess), green beans, peas, bananas, apples, pears, and even mango! We used his Bumbo for a little while, but I didn’t prefer to put him in it to eat. Plus, his legs were getting a little chubby for the leg holes (all the rolls please!). And thus began my search for a high chair.

While researching, I came across a baby led weaning course called, “Feeding Littles.” I immediately did a deep dive into all of their Instagram story highlights, posts, and blog posts. I firmly believe in educating myself, especially on a topic that gives me some anxiety (learning to breastfeed, no problem…teaching another human to eat and enjoy solid foods…hmmm….how do we do this?). I was reassured when my pediatrician reiterated all of the same tips and tricks at Jack’s 6 month appointment that I’ve learned in the course. So where do you start?

One of the signs that your baby may be ready is that they are six months of age, can sit unassisted or with minimal help, good head/trunk control, can bring their hands/toys to their mouth, leans towards food when sitting, along with tracking things with their eyes. Jack was checking off all of these boxes so we knew it was time to give it a shot.

We never registered for a high chair, maybe I was in denial that we would need one, but I didn’t want to inundate our house with unused baby items until some of the others could be retired (I’m not crying, you’re crying). Who knew it would be such a complicated decision? I wanted something that not only looked modern and sleek in our dining room area, was able to be stowed away easily, and on top of my must-haves, it had to be supportive of Jack while he would be sitting in it and he had to be able to grow with it. If I haven’t said it before, I’ll say it now, thank goodness for Instagram that introduced us to Oribel.

I came across the Oribel Cocoon High Chair on social media during a late night nursing session. I was excited to see that it was able to provide all the features I was looking for in a high chair, with positive reviews to boot. They had a slate version that provides the modern vibe I was looking for, it can stow away in the corner nook we have when not in use, it has multiple settings to grow with Jack, and, if that wasn’t enough, it’s ergonomically designed to off the best sitting support to my little one. As someone who works for a company that promotes and sells ergonomic seating for both home and office, I love that I can provide that same support for my son.

So far, we have had our Cocoon High Chair for about a month and a half and we love it. We got the seat liner with our slate high chair and it’s super easy to clean, the foam seat can be removed and the detachable tray is dishwasher safe! The chair has three recline positions along with six different heigh adjustments. Not only did it come with a large tray for self feeding (Jack’s obsessed with making messes), it also came with a food/cup holder if you don’t need to use the large tray. We’ve even removed the tray and pulled the chair right up to our dining room table so Jack can hang out with us!

The only issue I have with the entire high chair is less about the high chair and more about the mess that Jack makes (which I know is a good thing). However, he loves to wiggle his messy hands around and it can get into the cracks of the white casing on the legs. Just a little bit more scrubbing for Mom than she’d prefer. But overall, if the photos aren’t proof enough, this is definitely a Jack approved product. Therefore, it’s a mom approved product!

I’m anxious to continue our BLW journey and love sharing companies who support this journey! For more on Jack’s progress with BLW – check out our highlights on Instagram!
