An Update!

You haven’t  heard me mention much about the other rather large part of my life, my day job. I started my job the October after graduation in 2010. Over the past four years I’ve worked in corporate event planning, been able to travel the world, and ended up as a merchandise buyer, buying amenities and corporate gifts for business meetings and incentive trips.

I had already been blogging for a few months when I was offered the job that fall, and often looked to The Brunette One as my creative outlet during these past four years. Thanks to this little corner of the internet, I’ve been given and worked towards many amazing opportunities. Over the past year I’ve been freelancing for Juice Magazine, a local Des Moines publication, as well as creating DIY stories for Divine Caroline. If that wasn’t enough, my friend Emily and I started a styling business this past January, StyleEsque. It’s these jobs and opportunities that have opened the next chapter of my life, and I am so excited to see what unfolds.

In my heart of hearts, I’ve known for awhile it was time to figure out my next steps. It’s a scary thought, leaving something secure and for the road less traveled.  Yesterday marked my last day in the ‘corporate’ world. Two weeks ago I gave my two-week notice at my job (one of the scariest things I’ve ever done) to join a fashion tech start-up company called Men’s Style Lab based out of my hometown, Des Moines!

Next Monday is my first day as a stylist with the company and I can hardly contain my excitement! While I don’t know where this road will take me, I’m excited to bring you along on the journey! Expect to see more updates in the coming weeks. I don’t plan on leaving you any time soon, however; posts may stay sporadic until I get settled with my new job and the on-set of football season – we travel to Iowa City most home Iowa Hawkeye games!

Have you changed careers lately? What made you ready to take that leap of faith? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I envy you :) Some people are scared off when they hear the word start-up, but I can’t imagine a better place to be (so much to learn). How exciting!
