Interiors + Exteriors: Window Treatments

[slideshow_deploy id=’4147′]

Even though I’d been a homeowner for years prior to purchasing our new house, I’d never had to worry about blinds or window treatments. We kept the window treatments that came with the town home and never updated them. Sheer, cheap, drapes from Target did the trick for three years on previously installed curtain rods.

However, our new house is a different story. I fear we are naked neighbors people can see in the morning when we are getting ready! After about a month in the house, I finally ordered blind samples from blinds.com and they just arrived in the mail. Time to compare and take notes, I’m ready for some privacy!

While I will still install curtains at some point, I’m beside myself in the amount of color and style options that simply come with selecting blinds (top/down, cordless, motorized, plus over 50 plus different colors to choose from). While we want to save a little money, we won’t be selecting anything fancier than some top/down options at the moment. Some day for a nursery or my office I’d love to install roman shades.

However; the bigger issue at hand was what to do with our sliding class door. I absolutely despise vertical blinds. Which I didn’t necessarily realize until I had to pick some out. In all the other older homes we looked at prior to purchasing a new build, I didn’t think twice about window or door treatments.

So to Pinterest I went for inspiration, and after a few bad ideas, we stumbled across the perfect solution and I cannot wait to get to work on this project! See our inspiration above from Emily Henderson’s bedroom makeover and Dreen Green DIY’s living room makeover!

We plan on following these instructions, these other instructions would work as well. I like the idea of installing the curtain rod to the cornice box instead of drilling more holes into the wall.
