Guest Bedroom Design Inspiration

The Brunette One Guest Bedroom Design Inspiration

We’ve been sitting on an empty bedroom for almost 9 months, its high time I kick it in gear design our guest bedroom. Before we get to that, a little history on its current state. Upgrading from a two bedroom townhouse to a four bedroom two-story left us with more space but lacking furniture to fill all of our bedrooms. Prior to moving, we turned the second bedroom into my office and donated the bed set to our niece. However; with two of our four bedrooms now converted to his and her offices, and our guest bedroom had since turned into my catch-all for misc. items from wedding gifts that had yet to be opened, purses and luggage, photo equipment, etc.

Dutch Boy Paint (available at Menards) reached out to me a few weeks ago with a proposition I couldn’t turn down. The only stipulation was that the project had to include one wall and preferably a bright paint color. For someone who often prefers neutral walls, I took a leap of faith and decided on a bold shade of green for our guest bedroom design. Dutch Boy Paint was nice enough to suggest white paint color matches in their fan deck. However; we have off-white, almost an almond color trim and white simply didn’t look right next to the wood work. Additionally, I was in no frame of mind to tackle painting trim, that’s another project for another day.

In addition to providing paint for the project, Purdy provided all the painting supplies I needed. I split my paining over three evenings. The paint I used included a primer, but I still needed to do two coats per wall. While initially nervous on the outcome of selecting such a bright color, I’m obsessed with end-product.

Once I decided on a bold green, I immediately went to Pinterest and scoured my favorite interior designers on Instagram for inspiration. Here’s what I came up with for our guest bedroom design. A few front-runners that helped me make the push to go bold were this sitting room from Chris Loves Julia, this little boy’s room from The Makerista, this dining room from Sarah Gibson, and this lofted bedroom from Apartment Therapy

I mocked up my initial plan for the room below. A few things didn’t come to fruition due to budget constraints (childhood furniture to the rescue), but for the most part I’m happy with the turn out of the room and can’t wait to share photos of the space in the coming weeks!

I may or may not have napped on our new mattress from Tuft and Needle, simply to make sure our guests will enjoy it…I have a feeling we will be upgrading our own queen bed for a king in the near future…

Stay tuned for the final reveal, but in the mean time – shop the inspiration:
