Interiors + Exteriors: My Office Update

About a month or so before my wedding, I stumbled across interior designer Lauren Kelp by way of Amanda Lackey. If you haven’t heard of either lady, you are surely missing out. Lauren is a interior designer/stylist and Amanda is a photographer/stylist. As luck would have it, Lauren ended up reaching out and seeing if I would be interested in testing out her e-design skills. I jumped at the chance. My husband and I had just decided to turn our unused and catch-all guest bedroom into my much needed office (more my husband’s idea – I think he was ready for my craft projects quarantined to a corner of our house), so I told Lauren this would be the perfect place to start.

My inspiration came from a few images and house tours I had seen online (see my inspiration board here). I had spied many pink rooms and pink accent couches and knew instantly that my office had to have one or the other. One would be shocked to find out that pink is not my favorite color, but it’s up there. I’m truly a navy girl at heart. After talking with Lauren and putting together a inspiration board, we came up with phase one.

Utilizing pieces I already owned (a white parsons desk and two ghost chairs) and picking up a shelf and table at IKEA, I was well on my way to my very own office. First steps – paint. Painting dark chocolate brown walls is a pain in the ass…especially when you are painting them white. But let me tell you, it made a world of difference. My office is so BRIGHT and airy! I’m a little obsessed. My next steps were putting together my pink couch and IKEA shelf-hack (DIY coming soon). With all the big pieces of furniture secured, now it’s time for the fun stuff – the styling and finishing touches!

Lauren suggested that we use copper instead of gold. Initially I hesitated, but I love how my IKEA shelf turned out and can’t wait to do the same to my coffee table.

On the agenda we still have to find a rug, styling the shelf and coffee table and last but not least, artwork. While I haven’t worked yet on phase two with Lauren (I hope she approves!), here is what I have in mind for my office, please don’t mind my photoshop DIY Ikea hacks.

I initially wanted an all white look with the pink statement couch and pops of gold/copper. However; after finding the Zarine Rug from Lulu & Georgia, I have a feeling it will be making it’s home soon enough in the office. Instead of the lack shelves I had been planning a la The Effortless Chic’s office, I found this DIY from Sugar & Cloth and instantly fell in love with the rustic vibe that will help give the room a more lived-in vibe. As for artwork, I’m torn between a gallery wall or a large print above the couch. I bought two wall sconces from Target that match my floor lamp that will now reside beside my desk. These will flank either side of the couch. I still need to decide what type of bulletin board that I will put above my desk.

Let me know your thoughts and/or suggestions!
